Have you ever caught yourself rushing through life on autopilot, ticking off to-do lists, reacting to whatever comes your way, and wondering where the time went? I’ve been there too. It’s so easy to get swept up in the busyness of it all that we forget to choose how we want to live.

That’s where becoming intentional comes in.

In 2024 I started my postpartum fitness journey with a fat loss goal. Last week I actually reached my specific goal for 2025, in September.

How did I do this?

I became intentional. I trusted the process and I have stayed the course.  To clarify; trusting the process means following a process that works, adapting it as required, and taking action everyday to move you closer to your goal.

After a lot of procrastination in January 2024 I started Couch to 5k, this gave me that process to follow. In August 2024 I hired a personal trainer, this gave me accountability. This year I felt I needed a boost so I joined a six week programme where I had support, accountability and a clear process to follow.

Every day I ask myself: am I moving closer to my goals? If something isn’t moving me close to my goals then I change it and refocus where my time and energy are going.

In addition to me writing more, I have recently launched this website and a podcast too. I’ll be honest I don’t really know what I’m doing or where I am going. But, I have made a commitment to myself; for 12 months I will be consistent with producing content, hopefully helping people as I go, and having fun in the process. I love writing and I love being creative. My actions may be imperfect but doing this fills me with joy.

I have wanted to do a podcast for five years and the thought of another five years passing without me doing it terrifies me more than actually doing it.

Being intentional means living with purpose, making conscious and deliberate choices, and taking consistent action toward goals and values rather than letting circumstances dictate your life. It involves having clarity about what's important, understanding how your decisions align with your broader intentions, and mindfully focusing your time and energy on those priorities.

Key Aspects of Being Intentional:

  • Purposeful Action: You choose to act with a clear purpose, understanding why you're doing something and what you hope to achieve.

  • Conscious Choice: Instead of acting on autopilot or reacting to your environment, you make deliberate decisions that reflect your personal values and goals.

  • Alignment with Values: Your actions and behaviors are consistent with what you truly believe and what matters most to you.

  • Focus and Presence: Being intentional increases your focus on important outcomes and helps you stay present and mindful in your daily activities, relationships, and interactions.

  • Proactive Living: You take charge of your direction and happiness by making choices that move you toward your desired future, rather than letting life happen to you.

How to Be More Intentional:

  • Set Clear Intentions: Take time to define your goals and what you want to achieve in different areas of your life.

  • Practice Self-Awareness: Be mindful of your choices and how they align with your

  • Plan and Prioritize: Use planning to ensure your time and energy are directed toward your most important goals.

  • Be Mindful in Daily Activities: Infuse intentionality into everyday tasks, such as eating or interacting with people, by focusing on what's important in that moment.

Living intentionally doesn’t mean you have it all figured out, far from it. It means you’re choosing to live with awareness and purpose. You’re creating a life that feels right for you.

So don’t wait for the perfect time, perfect plan, or perfect version of yourself.

Just start.

Keep it simple.

Keep it daily.

Keep it intentional.

Progress over perfection, always.
